Uganda Premier League: SC Villa shutout Express FC, URA and BUL FC play to draw

The third round of matches in the Uganda Premier League is complete after Friday’s fixtures and this week’s action was highlighted by a duel between two of Uganda’s traditional powers in SC Villa and Express FC. The Jogoos of SC Villa emerged victorious by a 2-0 score against Express thanks to a moment of inspiration from Ivan Sserubiri. The former URA SC midfielder unleashed a beautiful curling free kick to beat Dennis Otim in the Express goal in the 55th minute, setting the stage for Charles Bbaale’s goal soon after. Bbaale took advantage of the waterlogged pitch to latch onto a ball played behind the Express defense, rounding Otim before curling his finish past a defender into the empty net.

In the other match on Friday the Tax Collectors of Uganda Revenue Authority SC were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Jinja-based side BUL FC with George Ssenkaaba’s equalizer in second half stoppage time sparing URA from defeat. In fixtures earlier this week UPDF SC won an eventful match 3-2 over Busoga United at the Bombo Military Barracks while the remainder of the games ended in draws.
