Uganda’s top two clubs were in action on Tuesday with both league leaders Vipers SC and second placed Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) emerging victorious in routine wins. 19-year-old Uganda national team member Najib Yiga opened the scoring for Vipers just before halftime when he flicked a header from an Aziz Kayondo cross that looped high in the air and over Mbarara City keeper Muhamad Ssekebba to give the Venoms the lead heading into halftime.
Another Uganda Crane, Milton Karisa, provided the second when the forward took advantage of Mbarara’s failure to deal with a long ball by charging in and curling an excellent finish around Ssekebba. Vipers remain seven points ahead of KCCA at the top of the table following the 2-0 home win.
KCCA FC had a successful outing in the earlier match on the road against the club of the Uganda People’s Defence Force, winning 3-0. In the 16th minute a corner kick was headed back in front of the UPDF goal where 21-year-old forward Anaku Sadat applied the finishing touch from close range to give the Garbage Collectors the lead. In the 65th minute Brian Majwega’s cross was sent put in by UPDF player Donato Okello for an own goal and Brian Aheebwa finished the scoring with his first goal after coming back from a lengthy layoff caused by a blood clot.
