Walid Regragui says farewell to Wydad AC supporters; Morocco national team up next?

Wydad AC manager Walid Regragui said goodbye to WAC supporters on his social media channels over the weekend after his departure was confirmed earlier in July and now many questions remain about his next destination. After leading Wydad to retain the title of Morocco’s Botola Pro this season and capturing the 2021-22 CAF Champions League, Regragui is being linked by many media sources with the Morocco national team job.

The 46-year-old would replace current Atlas Lions manager Vahid Halilhodžić is he was named as Morocco manager but the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has continued to deny any managerial change. Halilhodžić has long been rumored to be on the verge of being replaced due to some fractured relationships between the Bosnian manager and some of Morocco’s key players but has continued to avoid the axe after dedicating time to visiting European-based players and repairing some of the animosity between he and the players.

Wydad are on the search for a new manager but have had a couple of options fall through. Former Al Ahly manager Pitso Mosimane was discussed as a potential replacement but his wage demands were too high for the Reds while Petro de Luanda manager Alexandre Santos is unable to join because of a large fee he would need to pay for terminating his contract with Petro unilaterally.
