Wanderers Risk Suspension, Fined K1.6m for Violence

Malawi’s biggest rivalry match on May 1 between Nyasa Big Bullets and Mighty Wanderers erupted into controversy over refereeing decisions and was forced to be abandoned after 75 minutes with the score tied 1-1 due to supporters from both teams invading the pitch. The Super League of Malawi’s disciplinary committee determined that both sides each had some part in allowing their respective supporters to get out of control, but hosts Mighty Wanderers were hit with a stiffer financial punishment and were threatened with suspension from the league if any repeat incidents occur. The Nyasa Times has the details from the abandoned rivalry match as well as the judgment from the league’s disciplinary committee regarding who failed in their responsibilities.
