Wydad AC’s victory in the Casablanca Derby over Raja a couple of weeks ago all but clinched Morocco’s top division for the Reds, and Wydad made their Botola Pro title official on Wednesday with a 0-2 road victory at Mouloudia Oujda. The win maintained Wydad’s 11-point gap at the top with three games left to play, their 21st league title and fourth in the last ten years.
It was not the best performance and showcase of dominance that characterized the team’s season, but Ayoub El Kaabi kept his lead at the top of the scoring charts by finishing a Yahia Attiyat Allah cross in the 64th minute for his 16th league goal of the season and 20th in all competitions. Yahia Attiyat Allah then got himself on the score sheet in the 91st minute to put away the win and title by swinging in a powerful direct free kick.
Raja won 4-1 over Moghreb Tétouan earlier in the day with Ben Malango scoring his 15th of the season to keep the top scorer race interesting. Abdelilah Hafidi and Soufiane Rahimi also tallied for the newly crowned CAF Confederation Cup winners, who are looking to keep their grip on second place and Morocco’s final CAF Champions League spot with Royal Army club ASFAR only five points behind.
