Wydad crush RS Berkane to return to winning form in Morocco’s Botola Pro, Raja held to draw on the road

Wydad Casablanca snapped a string of two league matches without victory by taking out their frustrations on RS Berkane, thrashing the visitors 4-0 to boost their lead at the top of the Botola Pro standings to four points. The result for Wydad was good timing with news that Casablanca rivals Raja could not overcome a stubborn Renaissance Zemamra side in their 1-1 road draw.

It started to go downhill for Berkane in the 23rd minute when star defender Issoufou Dayo was forced into the situation of preventing a certain Wydad goal with his hand. The infraction led to a red card for the Burkinabé and a penalty kick for Wydad, which was easily converted by Yahya Jabrane. Following the red card Berkane did well to stay in the match but the wheels started to fall off when Mohamed Ounajem converted a second penalty kick in the 71st minute for Wydad. Walid El Karti and Simon Msuva added to the lead before the final whistle sounded.

Raja’s result against relegation candidates Renaissance Zemamra will be a massive disappointment, made even more so by Wydad increasing their lead as a result of the draw. The hosts matched Raja in their performance and were not daunted by a 56th minute opener from Raja’s Sanad Al Warfali, digging in to find an equalizer through substitute Zouhair Ouassli. Ouassli’s 75th minute strike was well finished into the top corner and was deserved for the underdogs.

Highlights are below from both games featuring the Casablanca sides.
