Zamalek make easy work of El Gouna to stretch unbeaten run to 13 games

Zamalek made easy work of El Gouna in Friday’s Egyptian Premier League action, winning 4-1 against the relegation candidates to maintain their pace at the top of the table. Ahmed Sayed “Zizo” scored twice while fellow key contributors Seifeddine Jaziri and Emam Ashour also scored before a late consolation from Gouna prevented the humiliation of a shutout. Zamalek are ten points ahead of Pyramids FC who will be in action on Saturday.

Zizo has scored most of his goals from set pieces and the penalty spot and yet another spot kick strike gave Zamalek the lead early on. Jaziri was tripped up in the opening five minutes and a VAR review determined a penalty that Zizo had no issues dispatching. Zamalek doubled their lead towards the end of the first half when Jaziri’s shot past the Gouna keeper was sensationally cleared off the line by a defender only for Zizo to follow up and finish for his second. Zizo continues to lead the league in goals with sixteen strikes as well as assists with ten.

After Gouna had a goal disallowed just before halftime their woes only increased soon after the halftime break. In the 57th minute it was Tunisia national team forward Jaziri who turned in Abdallah Sayed’s cross to make it three for Zamalek. Late on Ashour scored his fifth goal of the season by brilliantly taking down Shikabala’s lofted pass before finishing and subsequently getting sent off for a second yellow card. Gouna’s lone response came soon after Zamalek’s fourth with Islam Abdelnaim providing an emphatic finish.
