Zambia Super League: Four-way tie at the top of the table after second matchday

The second matchday of the 2023-24 Zambia Super League season saw all seven matches tightly contested and no clear leader of the pack by the end of the weekend. Four teams are tied at the top with four points each including newly promoted Mutondo Stars who defeated Nkana FC by a 1-0 score, leaving Nkana rooted to the bottom of the table along with NAPSA Stars.

The Pensioners were defeated 2-1 by Green Buffaloes on Saturday to leave last season’s fifth place finishers without a point through two matches. A couple of teams played their opening matches of the campaign over the weekend including Zanaco and Prison Leopards who both left with a point following 1-1 draws.

For Mutondo Stars it is a pleasant beginning to their campaign in the top tier. Rising talent Dalitso Lungu came on as a substitute and fired into the roof of the net from close range in the 69th minute. After finishing third in the second tier National Division One last season it looks like the Kitwe club is capable of continuing to surprise this season.

All the scores from the weekend are below followed by highlights from three matches including Mutondo Stars’ victory over Nkana.
