Two matchups pitting clubs from the Copperbelt Province and the capital of Lusaka highlighted Saturday’s slate of four matches as the Zambia Super League proceeded with its first matchday. ZESCO United came out on top against Lusaka side NAPSA Stars while Copperbelt club Nkana FC were defeated by Red Arrows to see the visitors earn maximum points on both occasions while there were draws in the other two matches.
At the Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka, a poacher’s finish from Moise Kanda was the difference for last season’s third place finishers ZESCO who defeated NAPSA Stars by a 1-0 result. Just when it appeared the teams were heading into halftime scoreless a hopeful long range effort deflected into the air and Kanda was quickest to react and turn in past NAPSA goalkeeper Rodwell Mukwanya.
It was the same result for Red Arrows whose triumph over Nkana also came at the Woodlands Stadium later in the day. The lone goal in the match came in the 9th minute when Chitiya Mususu won the ball in the midfield and played a splendid pass to find Edward Mwenya for a sharp finish past Mangani Banda in the Nkana goal.
Elsewhere there were draws in both of the other Saturday matches with a 0-0 result between Green Eagles and Mutondo Stars while Trident FC and Kansanshi were deadlocked at 1-1 in a duel between clubs from Solwezi.
