Zimbabwean football officials turn attention to youth development after 2023 AFCON disqualification due to FIFA ban

With the Zimbabwe national team disqualified from qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, those invested in the development of football in the country feel the time is now for focusing on fixing domestic football and youth development during the country’s hiatus from international competition. The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) was banned by FIFA for “third party interference” after its board, including ZIFA president Felton Kamambo, was sacked by the country’s Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) for lacking a cohesive development strategy as well as misappropriation of funds and accusations of sexual abuse.

The Herald has more on what prominent footballing figures in Zimbabwe have to say about how the country’s football can move forward as efforts continue to rebuild the footballing infrastructure and reform the domestic game.
