Portuguese football continues to be an excellent proving ground for African talents and this past season was no exception, especially in the second tier Segunda Liga. Out of a list of ten players, two Africans are in the discussion for Most Valuable Player for the 2020-21 season with Congolese winger André Bukia of Arouca and Ghanaian striker Abdul-Aziz Yakubu of GD Estoril earning the honors of nomination. Both were instrumental in their respective clubs’ promotion to the top division, with Bukia having three goals and three assists while Yakubu scored twelve goals for Estoril.
