Talented young central midfielder Hannibal Mejbri will have an opportunity to gain regular playing time in the 2022-23 season after completing a loan move from Manchester United to English second tier side Birmingham City this week. The 19-year-old Tunisia national team member who featured in two league matches for United last season stated it “is an honor to play for this club” in response to the move and may be eligible to make his debut as early as Tuesday in Birmingham’s league fixture against Norwich.
Mejbri is a talent to watch and the loan move gives the French-born midfielder an important opportunity to gain regular playing time at club level ahead of Tunisia’s participation at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He was a star for the Carthage Eagles at the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup with five starts but has found it difficult to cement his place in the starting lineup since then when Tunisia has their full strength squad available. Mejbri has already made sixteen appearances for the Tunisia senior national team since debuting in June 2021.
