Uganda national team midfielder Bobosi completes move to MLS Next Pro side

Rising Uganda national team star midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga was announced among the first ever signings for Major League Soccer club Austin FC’s reserve team, Austin FC 2, this week as the American club prepares for its reserve team’s first season in the MLS Next Pro league. The 21-year-old midfielder, named Male Player of the Year by the Federation of Ugandan Football Associations (FUFA) for 2022, joins on loan from Czech second-tier club MFK VyÅ¡kov for the 2023 season with a purchase option for the Austin FC first team. Bobosi will compete with Austin FC 2 in MLS Next Pro, a league featuring MLS reserve teams that began play in 2022, with the possibility of being promoted to Austin FC if he impresses.

Bobosi joined Czech club Vyškov after a highly successful spell with top Ugandan club Vipers SC where he scored 6 goals in 24 matches for the Venoms as they won the 2021-22 Uganda Premier League. He has already accumulated thirteen appearances for the Uganda senior national team after playing every minute for the Uganda under-20 national team at the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations in Mauritania, where the Hippos finished as runners-up following a defeat to Ghana in the final.

The 2023 MLS Next Pro season is set to start in March.
