Wednesday will see the first of two important AFCON qualifying matches for Malawi as they prepare for a Group B clash against South Sudan in Omdurman, Sudan. The Flames are currently in third place, one point ahead of Wednesday’s opponents and three points behind Uganda for the final qualification spot. Malawian hopes will largely pin on the South Africa based group of players as they required a busy travel schedule to arrive in Sudan a day before the match. Sheriff Tiraspol teammates Charles Petro and Peter Banda are also arriving in camp and will be ready to participate.
Star forward Gabadinho Mhango of Orlando Pirates has been working his way back to full fitness through substitute appearances for the Bucs but should be ready to be called on for starting duties. Polokwane City forward Khuda Muyaba declared to Malawi24 that he is ready to help the Flames’ goalscoring woes if called upon following a surprise recall to the squad. Malawi have only scored two goals in four games and lost 4-0 to Ethiopia in a warm-up friendly using domestic-based players last Wednesday.
