Al Ahly fell to a shocking defeat on Wednesday, falling 1-2 at home to Smouha for their first league loss of the season. Ahly dominated the match with 27 shots and eight on target, but Smouha made the most of their few opportunities to put together an outstanding performance and find a winner in the game’s last seconds through their prolific forward, Hossam Hassan.
On loan from Ahly to Smouha, Ahmed Abdelkader turned the tables on his parent club in the 11th minute by doing well to cross low to Mohamed Halimou for a well-placed finish. Ahly responded with fury but poor finishing continues to plague them despite creating numerous opportunities. Hussein El Shahat produced a tidy finish after being sent in 1v1 with the Smouha goalkeeper to equalize by halftime. Ahly pushed forward desperately to find three points but at the end of the match, but a swift counter-attack from Smouha caught Ahly keeper Mohamed El Shenawy off his line for Hassan to slot into an empty net and complete the shock.
