Great start helps Ahly cruise against ENPPI while Pyramids FC find success against Al Ittihad in Alexandria

A first league defeat of the season came for Al Ahly earlier in the week against Smouha, but the defending Egyptian Premier League champions did not show any ill effects in their 3-1 victory over ENPPI on Saturday. Hussein El Shahat continued his bounce back from an underwhelming first half of the season by scoring in the opening minute, his second goal in two games. It only took two more minutes before Mohamed Sherif added a second and Amir El Soulia made it 3-0 before halftime. Ahly are now three points behind Zamalek at the top of the table with two games still to make up on their rivals.

When it comes to the rest of the pack in Egypt’s top division, Pyramids are continuing their recovery from early season struggles with fine recent league form. Ahmed Tawfik set up a goal on each side of halftime for Pyramids to prevail 0-2 over Al Ittihad Alexandria on the road, with Mohamed Hamdi and Eric Traoré the goal scoring beneficiaries. Now on 30 points in third place, the work continues for Pyramids as only six points separate them from 11th.

Highlights from Ahly’s victory are below.

ENPPI 1-3 Al Ahly
