ES Sétif maintain seven point gap at top of Algeria Ligue 1 Professionnelle with win on Sunday

Following their surprise eliminations from the CAF Confederation Cup group stage and then Algeria’s Coupe de la Ligue, ES Sétif have bounced back in style by taking out their frustration in the domestic league. Les Aigles Noirs extended their league unbeaten streak to five matches with a 2-0 home win over CA Bordj Bou Arréridj on Sunday, utilizing a pair of penalty kicks to get the job done over the likely relegation candidates.

A hasty challenge from the visitors’ defense spoiled a first half in which Bordj Bou Arréridj held out the league leaders with Aberrahim Deghmoum going down for the awarding of the first penalty kick. Houssam Ghacha made no mistake to give the hosts the lead on the stroke of halftime, putting his spot kick just beyond the keeper for his 8th league goal and 9th in all competitions. It was not the most stylish performance from the league leaders, but another penalty was awarded late in the match and Akram Djahnit converted the second penalty to put the game beyond reach in the 80th minute.

Highlights from the match are below. Sétif are now seven points ahead at the top with several teams still in the running to give them trouble during the last stretch.
