Matip declined offer of Cameroon return – Conceicao

Liverpool center back Joël Matip put a premature end to his international career with Cameroon in 2015 and has not looked back due to a fractured relationship with the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) that ended with Matip rejecting a call up to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations side before the Indomitable Lions captured the trophy. At a press conference announcing his squad for upcoming FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Cameroon manager António Conceição revealed he had extended an invite to players like Matip who have rejected past call ups, but the 30-year-old maintained his wish to not be considered for Cameroon.
