Guinea’s Syli Nationale in need of victory against Sudan to accelerate pursuit of Morocco

Consecutive 1-1 draws to start their FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign has left Guinea in a precarious position ahead of their home fixture against Sudan that is set to take place in Agadir, Morocco due to circumstances off the pitch. The Nationale Syli trail Group I leaders Morocco by four points and need to stay within reach before they clash against the Atlas Lions for the first time later in the campaign, meaning a win against the Sudanese is a must on Saturday. Sudan are all but out of the race with only a point from three games, looking up at the rest of the group.

With all the adversity Guinea have dealt with including a coup at home that postponed their first clash against Morocco, they have to deal with additional obstacles following news that manager Didier Six has meningitis. The French coach will be unable to lead his charges into battle due to the illness and is also set to miss the match three days after Saturday’s matchup against Morocco. Kaba Diawara will fill in on the sidelines. Regular starting goalkeeper Aly Keïta should return between the sticks after shaking off a knock while playmaker Francois Kamano appears to be a doubt.
