A massive Covid-19 outbreak at Portuguese club Belenenses resulted in the Primeira Liga club only being able to feature eight field players in a 7-0 thrashing at the hands of Benfica on Saturday, and following the match Belenenses and South Africa player Thibang Phete was named as a cause of the outbreak. Club president Rui Pedro Soares specified that Phete’s positive test since returning from international duty with Bafana Bafana was an important reason for the team being shorthanded, and lashed out at the Primeira Liga for having the match proceed despite the outbreak.
