ZIFA to woo Billiat out of retirement

The Zimbabwe national team is dealing with multiple issues ahead of the Warriors’ participation at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, with star attacker and Kaizer Chiefs player Khama Billiat announcing his retirement from the team after the end of a disappointing FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) was caught off guard by Billiat’s announcement and intend to send representatives to South Africa to convince the 31-year-old back to the Warriors for the AFCON in Cameroon. Another key veteran, Knowledge Musona, announced his intention to retire from international football following the tournament and it will be essential for ZIFA to get Billiat back in the side before making way for the younger generation of players.

Getting Billiat back to the side is just one of several issues for Zimbabwe’s footballing body. The ZIFA board was suspended by the country’s Sports Commission and the team is currently lacking a head coach following the expiration of interim manager Norman Mapeza’s contract, making preparations for the AFCON more complicated.
