Egypt’s advancement to the semifinals of the 2021 FIFA Arab Cup has seen the emergence of 28-year-old forward Ahmed Refaat as a forward who is capable of contributing as a starter or off the bench. Scoring a sensational goal in the Pharaohs’ decisive 5-0 group stage victory over Sudan before tallying the winning goal in extra time in the 3-1 quarterfinal victory over Jordan, Refaat made his debut for Egypt in 2013 but overcame struggles in his club career before returning to the national team fold for the Arab Cup.
