Mamady Doumbouya, the Guinean military officer who led a coup in the West African country in September to become the new president, visited the Guinea national football team ahead of its participation at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon and was not afraid to put pressure on the Nationale Syli. Stating that the national team is obligated to repay the money invested into it if they do not win the competition, Doumbouya was not afraid to put pressure on the team who have never won an AFCON in their history, coming closest by finishing runners-up in 1976.
