Shamrock Rovers defender mistook international call-up for LinkedIn spam message

Irish-born central defender Roberto Lopes thought nothing of a message he received in Portuguese on LinkedIn that turned out to be an invitation to join the national team of Cape Verde, ignoring the team’s request because he did not speak the language and did not bother translating the invitation. Fortunately the Cape Verde manager at the time, Rui Aguas, continued to try and convince Lopes to represent the country of his father and now the 29-year-old is a regular in the heart of the Blue Sharks defense.
