Following their CAF Champions League home defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns, there were no ill effects suffered by Al Ahly on Tuesday in their return to Egyptian Premier League play as they earned a decisive 4-1 victory over Pharco FC. Mohamed Sherif opened the scoring for the visitors in the 5th minute with an excellent penalty box finish on the turn after receiving a low cross from Hamdi Fathi.
Two further goals came Ahly’s way from Mohamed Magdy “Afsha” to put the reigning African champions up 3-0 after only thirteen minutes. Pharco’s defense was unlocked by a simple long ball from Ahly defender Ramy Rabia to put Afsha behind and the playmaker had no issues finishing past goalkeeper Mohamed Sobhy. Afsha tallied his second when an excellent buildup set up right back Mohamed Hany with plenty of room to send in a cross that Sherif flicked to the far post, where Afsha applied an easy finish.
Pharco responded soon after with a goal from Ahmed El Sageery, but that was as close as the hosts got to challenging the Cairo titans. Substitute Hussien El Shahat wrapped up the scoring late on when his shot was deflected by Sobhy to complete the comfortably 4-1 victory.
Highlights are below. Ahly restore their two-point lead at the top of the league standings over Pyramids FC following the win.
