Group B at the CAF Confederation Cup has three teams in close contention for the top-2 spots following a narrow 1-0 home win for Algeria’s JS Saoura over Al-Ittihad of Libya on Sunday. Only 34 seconds in a goalkeeping error from Ittihad’s Muad Allafi made the difference when the 21-year-old spilled a deflected cross and Oussama Bellatreche quickly reacted to flick a shot in for the game’s only goal. Saoura and Ittihad now both have seven points but the victory means the Algerian club has the edge on the head-to-head tiebreaker, which could make Allafi’s error crucial in the end.
South Africa’s Orlando Pirates have been on a poor run of form in domestic action but the Bucs moved into first place on nine points following their 3-0 win over Eswatini’s Royal Leopards. All three goals came in the second half for Pirates against an overmatched Leopards side, who were mathematically eliminated from contention for a top-2 spot and still have yet to earn a point.
