Chad gave The Gambia all they could handle in the second leg of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying preliminary round tie on Tuesday as Gambia drew 2-2 to advance 3-2 on aggregate. Assan Ceesay scored both goals for Gambia after Chad took the lead twice in the second leg, which was hosted by Gambia in Morocco due to stadium issues. Ceesay’s penalty in second half stoppage time was necessary for the Scorpions, who would have been eliminated on the away goals rule if Chad were able to hold on.
