Africa Women Cup of Nations draw: 2018 finalists Nigeria and South Africa grouped together

The 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations draw took place late Friday in the Moroccan capital of Rabat, where the competition will be played out in the North African country this summer. The headline from the draw was 2018 AWCON finalists Nigeria and South Africa being grouped together in Group C, where the Super Falcons and Banyana Banyana will square off in their opening fixtures. The two teams met in the final of the 2018 edition played in Ghana, where Nigeria triumphed in a penalty kick shootout following a 0-0 draw in regulation.

Cameroon and Zambia will be hoping to emerge from Group B with the Indomitable Lionesses having big hopes of improving upon their third place finish in 2018, the two teams also set to face Tunisia and Togo. Hosts Morocco were drawn in Group A with Burkina Faso, Senegal and Uganda in a group that could be the most competitive.

BBC Sport Africa has more on the draw and upcoming matchups in the link below followed by a link to the full list of group stage fixtures.
