Mohammed Salisu’s status for Ghana still up in the air following Okraku visit

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) continues in their attempts to convince talented center back Mohammed Salisu to commit to playing for the Ghana national team but it appears Salisu is no closer to a decision. The Southampton standout met with GFA chief Kurt Okraku last week in England during Okraku’s two-week trip to Europe to meet with Ghanaian national team members playing abroad but GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum could not confirm that Salisu would be suiting up for the Black Stars anytime soon.

Asante Twum indicated that the meeting was positive between Okraku and Salisu with the player not turning down the invitation to play for Ghana, but the issue with the 23-year-old remains complicated. The last three Black Stars coaches including current manager Otto Addo have met with Salisu but the defender has maintained his wish to devote all his time and effort to his club side rather than occupying himself with national team duty. With the 2022 FIFA World Cup coming up the urgency of Ghanaian supporters to have Salisu with the Black Stars is only growing but Asante Twum has urged more patience and for fans to not alienate the player.
