Seko Fofana captures Prix Marc-Vivien Foé for best African player in Ligue 1

Ivory Coast national team member Seko Fofana was rewarded for an excellent season in France’s Ligue 1, winning the Prix Marc-Vivien Foé for best player in the league who represents an African national side. The 27-year-old scored eight goals and provided one assist from his position in the center of midfield for RC Lens, helping lead his team to a top-8 finish. Fofana has appeared in every league match this season for the club, who are currently on a 7-match unbeaten run during the final stretch. He was also named to the 2021-22 Ligue 1 Team of the Season for his efforts as well.

Fofana joins fellow Ivorian national team players Gervinho, Jean Michaël Seri and Nicolas Pépé as winners of the prestigious award. The Paris-born midfielder has appeared for Les Éléphants six times, scoring one goal in a 2019 friendly match against Tunisia.
