Guinea-Bissau names 23 players as Djurtus prepare for Mauritius and Sierra Leone

Guinea-Bissau will fancy their chances of qualifying for their fourth straight Africa Cup of Nations out of Group A but the Djurtus will need to be sharp in their opening 2023 AFCON qualifying matches against Mauritius and Sierra Leone in early June. Manager Baciro Candé called in a list of 23 players for the June 9 date where the Djurtus will host Mauritius in Marrakech, Morocco before traveling to Guinea for an away match against Sierra Leone four days later.

The squad is based all throughout the world of club football and will be led by Stade Reims midfielder Moreto Cassamá and FC Metz left back Fali Candé. Regular goalkeeper Jonas Mendes will not be available as well as forwards Joseph Mendes, Alexandre Mendy and Steve Ambri, giving manager Candé plenty of issues to worry about heading into matches against the two teams they are likely to be competing against for second place in Group A with Nigeria being the favorites to win the group.
