Alfred Duncan quits Ghana national team alleging humiliation and discrimination

Fiorentina midfielder Alfred Duncan is approaching 300 appearances in Italian football since moving to Inter Milan’s academy as a 17-year-old in 2010 but Duncan has only made nine appearances for the Ghana national team as he announced his retirement from playing for the Black Stars. Duncan alleged that he had been mistreated and discriminated against and referred to the president of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) as well as former Ghana national team coaches James Kwesi Appiah, Avram Grant and Charles Akonnor by name as people responsible for overlooking him.

The midfielder put out a statement that was shared by Fiorentina’s website explaining why he decided to withdraw himself from the Black Stars squad ahead of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Central African Republic. Duncan made 37 appearances in all competitions for Fiorentina as I Viola finished in 7th place in Serie A this season.
