Algeria coach Belmadi finalizes 24-player list for AFCON qualifying duels with Uganda and Tanzania

Algeria will be looking to restore the confidence of their supporters when the Fennecs square off against East African nations Uganda and Tanzania to start of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures in Group F. The favorites to win the group, Algeria will host Uganda in Oran on June 4 followed by a trip to Dar es Salaam for their encounter against Tanzania four days later. Ahead of the match controversial manager Djamel Belmadi finalized his squad list for the two qualifiers.

The squad looks far different from the veteran-led team that fell against Cameroon in the playoff round of 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying while several favorites will be counted upon. Youcef Belaïli, all-time leading scorer Islam Slimani, defenders Ramy Bensebaini and Aïssa Mandi as well as goalkeeper Raïs M’Bolhi will be the more familiar names involved while midfielder Ismaël Bennacer joins up after capturing a title with AC Milan in Italy’s Serie A. Manchester City playmaker Riyad Mahrez is out due to injury and seven players earned their first call to the Algeria senior side.
