Uganda coach Sredojevic’s job rides on fixtures against Tanzania

Another disappointing result for the Uganda national team saw the Cranes draw Niger at home in their second match of 2023 AFCON qualifying, and now manager Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic’s job hangs in the balance ahead of Uganda’s second set of qualifiers against Tanzania. Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) head Moses Magogo reportedly confronted Sredojevic in front of his players following the draw against Niger and informed him to “beat Tanzania or you are gone” in front of his players.

Sredojevic indicated he understands the expectations, acknowledging that Uganda need to qualify for the competition in Ivory Coast and that he is confident he can thrive under the pressure. Uganda will face Tanzania home on September 19 before playing the Taifa Stars again in Dar es Salaam, two matches that will likely make or break the team’s hopes of qualifying. Micho will likely have an opportunity to see Tanzania before the qualifiers with the two teams likely to face off in qualifying for the 2022 African Nations Championship with Micho pointing out that the majority of Tanzania’s senior squad is composed of domestic-based players, giving him a peek into the opposition ahead of the more important AFCON qualifiers.
