Comoros playmaker Youssouf M’Changama gets his chance in Ligue 1 following move to Auxerre

After thirteen seasons spent playing mostly in the lower divisions of French football and the second tier Ligue 2, Comoros national team standout Youssouf M’Changama will finally play in the top tier Ligue 1 for the 2022-23 season. The 31-year-old moved on a free transfer from Ligue 2 side Guingamp to AJ Auxerre, signing a two-year contract with an option for a third season. Auxerre earned their spot in next season’s Ligue 1 campaign through the promotion playoff where they defeated AS Saint-Étienne in a dramatic penalty kick shootout.

M’Changama has been an excellent player in Ligue 2 for several years now and was named to the 2021-22 Ligue 2 Team of the Season after scoring nine goals and providing fifteen assists for EA Guingamp. The attacking midfielder had previously appeared to be on the move to FC Nantes but negotiations broke down leading to him moving to Auxerre instead.
