26-year-old Morocco national team center back Nayef Aguerd will be testing his mettle in the English Premier League next season after finalizing a transfer to West Ham United on Monday. Aguerd joins from French club Stade Rennais where he made 66 Ligue 1 appearances and scored 5 goals over two seasons, placing third in the race for the Prix Marc-Vivien Foé awarded to the best African player in France’s top division.
West Ham parted ways with £30 million plus additional fees for Aguerd, a left-footed center back who has shown excellent technique and distribution skills as well as the ability to contribute both defensively and offensively on set pieces. Aguerd graduated from the well known Mohammed VI Academy, spending four seasons with FUS Rabat before making his first move abroad to Dijon and then Rennes.
