Algeria striker Andy Delort set for national team return after talks with manager Belmadi

When OGC Nice striker Andy Delort elected to concentrate on his club rather than participate at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria it led to a breakdown in his relationship with Algeria national team manager Djamel Belmadi but it appears Delort will be returning to the fold. The 30-year-old indicated he had an extended conversation with Belmadi to settle their differences and is set to be involved during the next international break for the Fennecs.

Belmadi said back in October 2021 that Delort was “no longer selectable” due to the manner in which Delort informed Belmadi when he sent a message stating that he would be unavailable. There was also speculation that when Delort joined Nice from Montpellier there was a clause in his contract that required he skip the AFCON to focus on his club duties. Delort was part of Algeria’s 2019 AFCON side that won the competition, making five appearances including a start in the group stage. After a 2021-22 season that saw the veteran score 18 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions, Delort’s good goal scoring form could make him a valuable asset to the Algerian team.
