Moussa Wagué moves on loan to Croatian club in attempt to get career on track

It has been a difficult two-year stretch for Senegalese defender Moussa Wagué ever since the FC Barcelona player suffered a severe knee injury in December 2020 while on loan at Greek club PAOK. The 23-year-old has not played since that injury and after spending eighteen months in rehabilitation Wagué is ready to revive his career with another loan move, this time to RNK Gorica in Croatia’s first division. Wagué expressed his excitement to get back on the pitch for competitive action in comments reported by Wiwsport and affirmed that he is fit and ready to go when Gorica’s league campaign kicks off on July 23.

Wagué had already established himself as a regular in the Senegal national side after featuring in every match for the nation’s under-20 team at the 2015 FIFA Under-20 World Cup, playing every match on the way to a fourth place finish. At the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia he became the youngest African to score a goal in Senegal’s 2-2 draw against Japan and went on to appear in three games during Senegal’s runner-up finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. He made six appearances in all competitions for parent club FC Barcelona before embarking on loans to Ligue 1 club OGC Nice and PAOK.
