Algeria and Espérance fullback Ilyes Chetti off to Ligue 1 club Angers

27-year-old Algeria national team left back Ilyes Chetti completed his first move to European football with a transfer to French Ligue 1 club Angers SCO this week. Chetti moves from Tunisian champions Espérance after the Tunis side completed their sixth consecutive championship season in Tunisia’s Ligue 1 Professionnelle, where Chetti scored the dramatic title-winning goal in second half stoppage time for Espérance in a 2-1 victory against US Ben Guerdane on the final day of the season.

Chetti made sixteen appearances in league play during the 2021-22 season to go along with four starts in Espérance’s CAF Champions League campaign, and completes a three-season stay at the Blood and Gold with 79 appearances and 3 goals after previously being at top Algerian club JS Kabylie. The fullback has made nine appearances for the Algeria national team, playing every minute of their 2021 FIFA Arab Cup as the Fennecs won the competition.
