Algeria’s Ligue 1 Professionnelle kicked off its 2022-23 season on Friday and the champions of the last three editions, CR Belouizdad, were among the teams in action. CRB had no issues dispatching HB Chelghoum Laïd by a 4-1 score at home to get their campaign off to a winning start and it was tall striker Karim Aribi who was the star of the show. The 28-year-old opened up the scoring with a penalty kick following a handball in the box and then provided a finish in the box to make it 2-0 just before halftime. Mohamed Belkhir and Abderrahmane Bourdim scored in the second half as CRB completed a routine victory.
The notable result from the opening day was JS Kabylie falling to ASO Chlef 1-0. New arrival Slim Jendoubi scored the game’s only goal in the 89th minute with the Tunisian forward heading in a cross from the left wing for the win at the Stade Mohamed Boumezrag. In the two other games from the day CS Constantine welcomed last season’s Ligue 2 champions USM Khenchela to top division football by defeating them 3-1 while RC Arbaâ defeated MC Oran also by a 3-1 score.
