Nigerian midfielder Onyedika moves to Club Brugge on five-year deal

The successful pathway of Nigerian players moving on from Danish club FC Midtjylland to the big stage in European football continued this week with news of deep-lying midfielder Raphael Onyedika’s transfer to Belgium’s Club Brugge. The 21-year-old from Imo State completed an $11 million transfer to Brugge and joins on a five-year deal that should see him slot right into the starting lineup for the Blauw-Zwart.

Onyedika joins striker Paul Onuachu and fellow defensive midfielder Frank Onyeka as players who have found success at Midtjylland after arriving as youngsters from Nigerian club FC Ebedei in Ogun State. After featuring in the Midtjylland youth team in his first season in Denmark, Onyedika played a season on loan at second tier side FC Fredericia before starring in the Danish Superliga and winning the top division’s Young Player of the Year. He scored 4 goals and provided 3 assists in 57 appearances across all competitions for Midtjylland.
