Nigerian striker Umar Sadiq set for Real Sociedad move

Nigeria national team striker Umar Sadiq is set for a major club upgrade with a medical ahead to complete his transfer to Real Sociedad from fellow Spanish La Liga side Alméria before the transfer deadline. The 25-year-old goal hunter has been identified as Sociedad’s desired replacement following the big money departure of star and Sweden national team forward Alexander Isak to English Premier League side Newcastle United. Reports indicate Sadiq will join Sociedad for a €20 million transfer fee along with a clause that sees Alméria receive 20% of any future fee.

After joining AS Roma in Italy’s Serie A following his exploits for Nigeria at the 2016 Summer Olympics, Sadiq struggled to make a breakthrough in the top divisions of European football across several loans away from Roma before finding success with a spell at Serbian club Partizan Belgrade. Sadiq moved on to Alméria for $9.9 million in October 2020 where he scored 38 goals across two seasons in the second tier of Spanish football, scoring two more goals in three games this season after boosting Alméria to La Liga for the 2022-23 campaign.
