Algeria’s Ligue 1 completed its second weekend of action on Friday and Saturday with goals coming at a premium. Only five goals were scored in eight matches but for the current top three sides one was all they needed to earn three points. Upstarts CS Constantine and USM Alger as well as defending champions CR Belouizdad all came out with 1-0 victories to set the pace at the top with Belouizdad edging Paradou AC at home. Talented young forward Mohamed Belkhir made it two goals in two games with his winner coming just before halftime for Le Chabab.
CS Constantine passed their own difficult test by defeating JS Kabylie 1-0 in Tizi Ouzou courtesy of a 12th minute strike from Benin national team forward Marcellin Koukpo, whose second goal in the early season helped his team prevail. The 27-year-old managed to sneak his way past multiple JSK defenders before finishing with an excellent low shot to make it two wins from two games for his side.
Other notable winners included USM Alger, who earned three points on the road at top division newcomers USM Khenchela thanks to an early headed goal from Zinedine Belaid off a corner kick. Walid Zamoum scored the only goal from a well hit free kick to give ES Sétif their first win of the season at home against RC Arbaâ by a 1-0 score.
