CAF conducted its draw for all of the groups in qualifying for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations set to be held in Ivory Coast. Former Ivory Coast national team great Solomon Kalou was there to draw the teams along with Lucas Radebe, an AFCON winner in 1996 with South Africa. The top two teams in each group will qualify along with hosts Ivory Coast .
Defending African champions Senegal have been placed in Group L with Benin, Mozambique and Rwanda while hosts Ivory Coast are in Group H with Zambia, 2021 surprise performers Comoros and Lesotho. South Africa have what appears be in a firm candidate for most difficult group and will take on Morocco, neighbors Zimbabwe and Liberia in Group K.
Ghana are in an interesting Group E with Madagascar, Angola and Central African Republic. Nigeria have been handed what looks like a comfortable draw with Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau and either São Tomé & Principe or Mauritius in Group A. Zimbabwe and Kenya were drawn despite being suspended by FIFA and CAF has set a deadline of mid-May for the country’s federations to get their ban lifted.
