FIFA Club World Cup: Wydad drawn against Saudi giants Al-Hilal, Al Ahly set for tournament opener

The draw is set for the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup featuring the club champions from all confederations and Africa will have two representatives at the competition hosted by Morocco starting February 1. Egyptian club Al Ahly, runners-up at the 2021-22 CAF Champions League, will be involved in the tournament opener with a matchup against Oceania Football Confederation representatives Auckland City of New Zealand. Ahly will be favorites to advance to the second round where Major League Soccer club and CONCACAF Champions League winners Seattle Sounders await the winner for an opportunity to take on European champions Real Madrid in the semifinals.

Ahly take the African champions spot vacated by CAF Champions League holders Wydad AC who are the host club for the competition taking place in Casablanca. Wydad are set for a duel against Saudi club and 2021 AFC Champions League winners Al-Hilal on February 4, where the Reds will be eager to prove themselves and win to set up a semifinal match against South American champions Flamengo of Brazil.
