Competition for the top three spots in each of the Nigeria Professional Football League’s two groups continues to intensify following the weekend’s fixtures. Bendel Insurance are no longer perfect after a scoreless draw against Gombe United on Saturday but the Benin City club are still four points ahead at the top of Group A despite the result.
Group A’s second place team, Remo Stars, experienced their second defeat of the campaign allowing Akwa United to move within two points after a 3-1 home victory for The Promise Keepers. There is a three-way tied for third place with Akwa being joined by Plateau United and Enyimba who both enjoyed victories as well over the weekend.
Group B remains tight with Lobi Stars even at the top with Rivers United on thirteen points following their 0-0 draw at Niger Tornadoes. Rivers fell 2-1 at newly promoted Doma United, allowing Abia Warriors to move within a point of the two top sides after holding off a late charge from hosts Dakkada FC and winning 4-2.
