2023 AFCON Qualifying Group J: Victories move Tunisia and Equatorial Guinea a step closer to qualification

Tunisia and Equatorial Guinea both earned victories on Friday to remain the top teams in Group J of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying with Tunisia holding a one point lead at the top following a 3-0 victory over Libya. Youssef Msakni’s opening goal and a penalty kick from Ali Maâloul gave Tunisia a two-goal lead just past the twenty minute mark before Haythem Jouini finished off the scoring late on. The Carthage Eagles are on seven points through three matches before they meet Libya again on March 28 at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi.

In Group J’s other match, Equatorial Guinea had a relatively comfortable 2-0 victory against Botswana. Saúl Coco and Federico Bikoro provided the goals for the Nzalang Nacional in Malabo with Bikoro’s goal coming in the second half after the Zebras were reduced to ten men following Thato Kebue’s second yellow card. Second placed Equatorial Guinea are on six points following the result, three points ahead of Libya and five ahead of Botswana before their second clash against the Zebras in Francistown.
