The first legs of the Third Round of 2023 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualifying are complete following Saturday’s clash between neighbors Gabon and Cameroon. Jeremie Moussango Obounet scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory for Gabon at the Stade de Franceville in the Gabonese capital, giving the Panthers a lead to defend when the teams meet again in three days time in Yaoundé.
Moussango provided the winning touch in the 13th minute when a long ball from deep in the midfield sent the Hungarian-based forward in beyond the Cameroonian defense, where Moussango rolled his finish past Olympique Marseille goalkeeper Simon Ngapandouetnbu. Both teams had opportunities on goal but Cameroon failed to find an away goal to take back to the Stade Ahmadou Ahinjo. To add to the bad news for Cameroon central defender Blondon Meyapya will not be available for the second leg after receiving a red card.
