The battle for positions continued in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) over the weekend as teams fight for a top three position in Groups A and B to secure advancement to the championship stage of the abridged 2023 season. Lobi Stars were among the teams who boosted their cause, defeating Abia Warriors 2-0 to remain at the top of Group B. Abba Umar and Joseph Atule scored in the first half for the club from Makurdi in the Middle Belt’s Benue State.
Lobi Stars are four points ahead of Group B’s second placed side Rivers United, who returned from CAF Confederation Cup duty to draw Niger Tornadoes 0-0 away from home. A point for each team is enough to keep both in the top-3 with Tornadoes level on nineteen points with fourth placed Doma United but ahead on the goal differential tiebreaker.
In Group A it is still Bendel Insurance who are top of the log despite a fourth consecutive draw following their 1-1 result against Kwara United. Second and third placed sides Akwa United and Remo Stars played to draws, allowing Enyimba to move to within a point of the top-3 with their important 2-1 victory over Plateau United.
