With the exception of three clubs involved in CAF club competitions (CR Belouizdad, USM Alger and JS Kabylie), the majority of clubs in Algeria’s Ligue 1 Professionnelle have ten or less matches remaining in their domestic league campaigns as the league proceeds to the final stages. CR Belouizdad remain the leaders by a substantial margin but Le Grand Chabab are giving the competition hope following a second consecutive draw on Thursday.
After an early exchange of goals, CRB failed to follow up Leonel Wamba’s 13th minute equalizer with another goal in a 1-1 draw at home against Paradou AC. CRB remain eight points clear of second place club CS Constantine and still have two matches to make up on the next three teams below them. One of those clubs, fourth placed MC Alger, found a second half goal from defender Ayoub Ghezala to defeat NC Magra 1-0 earlier this week. MCA are now ten points behind CRB following the result.
USM Alger fancy their chances in the CAF Confederation Cup after reaching the quarterfinals but USMA are struggling to match expectations in domestic play. The eight-time league champions did earn an important victory against USM Khenchela on Wednesday with two first half goals lifting them to a 2-0 victory. USMA move past three teams with the result and are now in fifth position with two games to make up on the teams above them that include MCA, ES Sétif and CS Constantine.
Highlights from the three matches played over this past week are below following the scores.
